Working with schools
Today more than ever we are aware that the seeds for healthy living and a positive attitude to food are best sown when we are young. That's why we have developed relevant food-focussed activities and cookery skills-building with a strong element of fun and sense of achievement. Food and cooking can also be the route to the acquisition of other important life skills such as teamwork, managing a budget, time-management and transition to employment in later year groups.
We have successfully worked with over 30 Primary and Secondary schools, frequently in partnership with The Healthy Schools Team and Extended School Partnerships. We work with all age ranges from Reception to Year 11 and with Pupil Referral Units and Projects.
Course examples:
- Cooking with Parents and Children
- After-school Classes
- Healthy Eating Week Initiatives
- Cooking on a Budget
- Food-focussed Projects
- Curriculum-related Projects such as Diet and Health; Consumer Awareness; Food Preparation and Handling Skills and Food Hygiene and Safety
Courses are always hands-on with lots of opportunity to gain new skills, sample and be introduced to new and unfamiliar ingredients and make delicious easy recipes in a fun and supportive environment. Throughout the courses we promote positive healthy eating messages in line with government guidelines, particularly focussing on The Eatwell Plate, 5-A-Day and Traffic Light Labelling and Change4Life.
